He’s invented a word. He says it’s the word the world needs now. She’s going to make him explain why.
Alastair joins acclaimed broadcaster Mishal Husain on stage to discuss his new book, Persevilience: The Word the World Needs Now (Atlantic). Part memoir, part manifesto and part call to action, it argues that the ability to persevere with resilience matters more than ever, both in our own lives and in shaping a better future for society.
The conversation ranges from the challenges facing Britain and the wider world to the personal, as Alastair writes with characteristic candour about love, loss, friendship and resilience in the face of adversity.
A limited number of VIP tickets (£94.50) include premium front-row seating, a signed copy of Persevilience, a The New World tote bag and a meet & greet with Alastair over a glass of fizz.

I enjoyed this evening’s discussion.
Mishal and you pondered whether persivilience could be ?taught to young children. The school where I am a governor has developed and implemented a programme we now call “Survive and Blossom” that all children (4-11) in our small rural primary school experience. There is a different card each half term that is featured in assemblies, class discussions, our weekly newsletter. The aim is to help the whole child flourish, to develop good habits and strategies for better mental health and well-being. Survive and Blossom has elements of persistence and resilience and sits within our school values of ‘love, respect and belong’ which, I hope, meets the moral values element for persivilience to be a positive force for good in people.
